GIGA China Series: lecture

🌏 Who shapes global knowledge about China — and whose perspectives are missing?

Join us on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, for the GIGA China Series lecture Global Knowledge Production about China, featuring hashtagJulieYuWenChen, Professor of Chinese Studies at the University of Helsinki

Drawing on a global oral history project spanning Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia, Chen explores how diplomats, journalists, scholars, and diaspora communities shape our understanding of China. From Cold War intelligence and missionary sinology to today’s increasingly securitised landscape, her talk examines who gets to produce knowledge about China, how their perspectives are shaped, and why a genuinely global approach to China studies matters.
